Subject: TBD - discussion about gun violence in the community/safety
Organizer: "Megan Weitzel" <mweitzel@arts.ucla.edu>
Location: Young 2033
Time: Wednesday, September 26, 2018 7:00pm - 8:30pm

Description: Mother’s Demand Action For Gun Sense in America  is a gun control advocacy group (MOMS). We advocate for common sense gun control to reduce gun violence. https://everytown.org/moms/ Mom’s is a grassroots organization that is under the umbrella of Everytown for  Gun Safety, which also houses Student’s Demand Action.  I belong to the Santa Monica chapter, which includes two other UCLA graduate students.  The three of us aim to bring more awareness to UCLA concerning gun control, safety and our organization.

We are looking for a room on Wed, September 26th to hold 60 people in the evening from 7-8:30pm.  I would be the main contact and of course ensure the room will be left pristine.  I am a SAO at UCLA, however this event is not related to my employment at UCLA>

Professor Adam Winkler from the UCLA School of Law will be our speaker.  Adam Winkler is a professor of constitutional law at the UCLA School of Law. He is the author of Gunfight: The Battle over the Right to Bear Arms in America, and a commentator about legal issues. Although the subject is political in nature, we intend for the talk to be a discussion on how guns effect our community and gun Safety.  Gays Against Guns, Be Smart for Kids and the Brady Coalition will also be present.  We will be inviting the LGBTQ+ Office to participate as well.
